“It’s not often that people get to witness the beauty of nature firsthand, but luckily, artists like Amy Dover are bringing the wonderful world of wildlife into people’s homes via these realistically rendered animal illustrations.

Drawn using only graphite pencils, these Amy Dover creations are a breath of fresh air to those who feel bogged down by the pristine digitally enhanced look of images currently saturating mainstream media. When you look at a Dover piece, you’re leaving city life behind and this special quality sets her illustrations apart from many artists currently working in industry.

Among the animals Dover renders recurrently are birds, wolves, bunnies and bears. Though some of these creatures are predatory by nature, Dover always manages to render them with an elegance and grace only attainable by skilled artists.”

Trend  Hunter

“Combining the intense melancholy and nostalgia of the past with the primal nature of wild creatures, UK-based artist Amy Dover explores the ephemeral essence of life and the oftentimes macabre and cruel hand of a dispassionate universe. Since 2008 she has exhibited in both group and solo shows and has gained international press for her work.”

Juxtapoz

“Dover’s attention to detail in her pencil drawings tackles the aspect of nature confronting subjects of death and humiliation common to man, bird and beast..............

As the old idiom goes, a picture’s worth a thousand words, and by the looks of the preview images from Nightshade – it might just be right.”

Design Week

“Amy’s work lies close to the dark side of nature, the hidden world. In her wonderful graphite sketches she portrays humans, birds and wild animals in all their disturbing beauty. Inspiration for her art originates with music, poetry and folk tales and the final creations touch on topics such as death, humiliation and betrayal. As an example her take on innocence and loss is portrayed by a small, dead sparrow.

You will find a darker story told in all of her pieces, something that inspires the viewer to absorb the motif a little bit deeper and stir up feelings that stays with you.

Since graduating in the summer of 2008, Amy has taken part in, as well as, had her own separate exhibitions throughout England. Her art has also been widely recognised internationally.”
